At Orozco Heavy Lift, we prepare candidates for the written and practical

exams required for CCO certification. We offer “Test Prep” courses that 

are geared towards individuals with some experience working around cranes, and basic knowledge of crane dynamics. We also offer “Beginner”

courses that are geared towards individuals that are “entry-level” and have

no experience working around cranes or rigging to loads.

FAQ's

What type of certification will I receive?

CCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) previously known as NCCCO.

Is CCO certification portable?

Yes, CCO is the “Gold Standard” for certification. It is accepted across North America and US territories. It will remain active even when you change employers.

How long will my certification be good for?

It is good for 5 years and then a written exam must be successfully completed for renewal.

Do I need to take another practical exam for renewal?

No, practical exams are only required for initial certification or if certification is allowed to expire.

How long does it take to get certified?

The classroom portion for Rigger 1 can be completed in as little as two days, usually over a weekend. EOT written exam takes up to 60 minutes and can be completed the week following class, Monday-Friday. The practical exam takes up to 60 minutes and can be completed the week following class, usually on weekends.

How much is tuition?

Rigger 1 tuition is $1,400. This is a package which includes everything needed for certification including CCO processing fees.

Crane Operator tuition is $2,500 for one crane type. This is a package that includes everything needed for certification including CCO processing fees.

If I'm already a certified Crane Operator and only want to add another specialty, do I need to pay full price?

No, you don’t need to retake the Core exam, which is 2 days of classroom and a written exam. This reduces the cost and time needed for certification. Specialty only would cost $1,500, including 1 day of classroom, EOT written exam, practical exam, study guide, and CCO processing fees.

How much practice time is included in my training package?

For candidates paying for either the full package or specialty only, 2 hours are included for practicing operating the crane.

Can I purchase more practice time on the crane?

Yes, candidates who have paid for a training package can purchase more time for practicing on the crane at a discounted rate of $100 per hour. This includes coaching by an instructor.

How much is it to only take my practical exams if I'm already experienced and don't want to take the class?

Rigger 1 practical exams are $300 (not including the $95 CCO processing fee). You can pay this directly to CCO ahead of time and give us your authorization code, or we can add it to your exam and save you the hassle.

Crane Operator practical exams are $500 (not including the $70 CCO processing fee). You can pay this directly to CCO ahead of time and give us your authorization code, or we can add it to your exam and save you the hassle.

Do you offer training and/or testing offsite?

Yes, Some of our clients have their own crane and yard. We can register their crane, and yard for testing and set up our course there. This is cost-effective when scheduling multiple candidates for training. Special pricing and scheduling are available in this situation.
